The Watertown Area Community Foundation’s Women & Giving donors have funded made more than $300,000 in grants over the years.

Thanks to donors, this year thousands of dollars will again help area women and children overcome barriers, increase their opportunities and achieve their goals.

The latest Women & Giving fund-raising campaign raised more than $90,000. Of that amount, $42,000 was designated for the Women & Giving endowment fund to fuel future grant-making. The Women & Giving Advisory Committee set aside $20,000 to award in scholarships to non-traditional female students attending Mt. Marty University and Lake Area Technical College in Watertown.

The Women & Giving Committee will meet in November to award scholarships.

“On behalf of the organizations and individuals served by these grants and scholarships, I thank all of those who gave to Women & Giving this year,” said Jan DeBerg, executive director of the Watertown Community Foundation.

The committee awarded the following 2022 grants so far:

• $1,500 – Boys & Girls Club of Watertown to assist with the start-up of a Kindness Club.

• $10,096 – Brothers & Sisters Behind Bars for start-up costs, including furnishings, equipment and signage for an office; and for a hand railing at the women’s transitional housing unit

• $2,000 – Community Transit of Watertown/Sisseton to support transportation needs of area women and children

• $600 – Divine Providence of South Dakota for retreat materials

• $3,200 – East Central CASA to maintain supplies in the Caring Closet and to purchase winter gear for up to 45 foster children

• $1,750 – Goss Opera House to sponsor speaker/survivor of human/sex trafficking presentation

• $1,250 – Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership to support the Delta Dental Mobile visit

• $3,400 – Joy Ranch of SD to replace sleeping bags and pillows for women and child campers

• $8,884 - Lake Area Zoological Society’s Girls Rule

• $2,500 – PACH for one week of food support

• $1,000 – Toastmasters District 78 Club #7487445 for Women’s retreat promoting self-care.

• $500 – Watertown Area Snow Queen to help pay for self-defense, suicide awareness and art classes for participants

• $4,500 - Watertown Area United Way to support three months of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library

• $2,500 – Watertown Middle School to support the annual Girls’ Night Out event

• $250 – Watertown Regional Library to support the Summer Reading Program

• $1,000 – Watertown School District for household/hygiene items for needy students/families
